So, you've got your site running on Mambo, and you want to try out new components, modules and templates without disturbing your web site. What's the answer? Set up a testing server. click on read more to learn how.
The first thing you will need to do to set up a testing server on your local machine, is to install Apache, PHP and MySQL. The easiest way to accomplish this is by using an all-in-one package. I chose the Uniform Server for my testing server. With the click of a button, I had Apache, PHP and MySQL (including phpMyAdmin) up and running. See the Uniform Server web site for complete installation instructions. After the server is started, you can see the administration page by going to http://localhost/a/. Next, I copied the Mambo files into the www directory within the miniserver folder. I then opened my browser and pointed it to http://localhost to start the Mambo web install. That's all! I now have a local Mambo installation where I can test the latest components, modules and templates without affecting my web site. I can even practice making my own templates without fear of breaking my live site. |
