Joomla Website Announces Five Finalists for Charity Contest

Voting Open Until Sunday Night

[White River Junction, VT], a leading provider of website designs and tools for the Joomla CMS, announced today its Five Charity Finalists for its first-ever "Charity Starts at a Joomla Homepage" Contest. Any visitor to Joomlashack's website can vote for one of five charities nominated by the Joomlashack community to win either a free website design or a $1,000USD. Voting ends Sunday, January 28th by midnight GMT. In eight days last December, over 110 nominations for worthy organizations from around the world poured in. Twenty seven submitted information to be considered as a finalist. After a fascinating, fun, and difficult evaluation process, Team Joomlashack picked these five charities as our finalists:

Casa do Caminho Orphanages protects 38 children and teenagers from the violence, drugs, and poverty of the shanty towns in Rio de Janeiro. Their mission is to shelter and protect children and adolescents from all different family backgrounds and vulnerable situations, provide educational opportunities, improve their employment potential, and prepare them for re-integration into their families.

Athens County (Ohio) Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian Ad Litem (CASA/GAL) Program is a non-profit organization that advocates for the best interest of abused and neglected children within the court system. Based on the belief that children are entitled to a safe and permanent home, CASA/GAL works in the court system to serve as the child's advocates and represents the child in Juvenile Court.

Kabissa, meaning "complete" in Kiswahili, is a nonprofit organization founded on the belief that the Internet can be a revolutionary force for positive social change in Africa. By offering affordable Internet tools and services, Kabissa: Space for Change in Africa is a trusted partner to over 850 African organizations, each working to find solutions to the problems Africans face on a daily basis.

Macedonian Woman Rights Center - Shelter Center is a non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit advocacy and lobbying women's organization established in 2001. Its mission is to contribute to the rectification of the long-standing neglect of women's human rights in Macedonian society through support, guidance, and promption of the development of social, political, and legal order in which human rights are well respected and women''s rights are well protected.

Orphans of St. Jude Fund is a recent effort in response to the deadly typhoon that decimated the city of Legazpi, Philippines last November, leaving countless children orphaned. Clergy and parishioners from St. James Catholic church in Port Richey, Florida, have created an educational trust fund for the orphans, with the hope of starting an orphanage in 2007. Their mission is to bring hope to the orphans by way of shelter, education, mentoring, and spiritual well being.
